PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer for controlling ribbon feed which can utilize a low cost motor, which satisfies only a starting torque corresponding to the case of the ribbon diameter getting maximum, for a ribbon-feeding shaft driving motor and a ribbon-winding shaft driving motor for the printer. SOLUTION: The ribbon-feeding shaft driving motor 8 and the ribbon-winding shaft driving motor 10 are separately controlled. The controlling is performed by a very short control cycle (for example, about 4 msec). Between a ribbon feeding shaft 7 and a printing section, when the ribbon gets strained, the ribbon-feeding shaft motor 8 is actuated, but when the ribbon gets relaxed, the motor is stopped or maintained in the state of stopping. Between the printing section and a ribbon winding shaft 9, when the ribbon gets strained, the ribbon-winding shaft driving motor is stopped or maintained in the state of stopping, but when the ribbon gets relaxed, the motor is actuated. When actuating any drive motor, the motor is always started from the low speed/high torque of the first step. When the state of the ribbon is not changed even if the control cycle is repeated only for the established time, the motor speed is gradually increased. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
