The tunnel boring cutter has a mounting body (1) and a cutting ring positioned peripherally of the mounting body. The cutting ring (2) is made of a steel matrix having hard metal inclusions (4). The inclusions can constitute wolfram carbide at seventy percent and a binder. The ring can have successive ring segments.
