<p>An improved press system, especially for separating liquid from sludge has the sludge pressed over a cylindrical sieve with suction applied to one side of the sieve to enhance the extraction of liquid. The dried solids residue (3) is collected at one end while the liquid is pumped away by a high volume pump such as a Rootes pump.
