PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide continuous casting powder for Al-containing Ni-based alloy to perform smooth continuous casting and a method for continuously casting a slab free from surface defects using the powder. SOLUTION: The powder for continuously casting a molten steel containing more than 0.8 mass% to 3.5 mass% Al contains 20-30 mass% CaO, 30-40 mass% SiO<SB>2</SB>, 1-10 mass% Na<SB>2</SB>O, 0.5-5 mass% Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, 10-15 mass% F, 0.1-8 mass% MgO, 0.5-5 mass% MnO, 4-10 mass% BaO, 4-10 mass% Li<SB>2</SB>O, 0.5-3 mass% C, and has a basicity controlled to 0.5<CaO/SiO<SB>2</SB><1.0, a viscosity of 0.4 to 2 poise at 1,300°C, a solidification temperature of 850°C to 1,100°C, and such a property that one side of the mold powder contacting with a mold is crystallized when the mold powder is poured between the mold and a solidified shell.
