PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a metal coated steel pipe, which method can comparatively easily coat and fix a thin coating metallic sheet on a steel pipe. SOLUTION: The coating metallic sheet 3 having a steel band is preliminarily manufactured by attaching the first steel band 5 having a thickness larger than that of a coating metallic sheet 4 to the end portion of the coating metallic sheet 4. The coating metallic sheet 3 having the steel band is coated on the steel pipe 2 by winding it around the steel pipe 2 in such a manner that the first steel band 5 is arranged in the circumferential direction of the steel pipe 2, and then the end portion of the first steel band 5 is welded on the steel pipe 2. Because the portion to be welded to the steel pipe 2 is the end portion of the steel band 5 and its thickness is larger than that of the coating metallic sheet 4, the burn-through in welding can be prevented, and the coating metallic sheet 4 can be comparatively easily wound and fixed on the steel pipe 2.
