<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cross-linked polymer electrolyte which is superior in water resistance, has a high heat resistance and low cost, and is suitable for a proton conductive membrane of a fuel cell with low methanol permeability. <P>SOLUTION: The cross-linked polymer electrolyte is obtained by reacting a polymer electrolyte and at least one kind of cross-linking agent selected from a group of the following general formula: (i-1)-(i-5) (wherein V is a reacting group carrying cross-linking reaction. W is H, a substituent, or a reacting group carrying cross-linking reaction. U is a direct bond or bivalent group.) A cross-linked polymer electrolyte membrane containing the above electrolyte is provided. A fuel cell has the above electrolyte and the electrolyte membrane.
