PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source device having stable light-emitting characteristics and capable of preventing certainly insulation breakdown by the atmosphere gas.

SOLUTION: The light source device 21 comprises a bulb 3, a discharge medium including rare gas filled inside the bulb 3, an inner electrode 1 arranged inside the bulb 3, and an external electrode 2 which is arranged at the outside of the bulb 3 and extends along the axis of the bulb 3. A supporting member 27 supports the external electrode 2 so that the external electrode 2 may face the bulb 3 with a gap of a distance specified beforehand.
