A vacuum cleaner is provided to keep balance of the vacuum cleaner by symmetrically installing a cord reel apparatus and an exhaust unit at both sides of a body, and to improve appearance by storing a power cord in the cord reel apparatus. An upright vacuum cleaner includes a suction nozzle(60) for sucking air and foreign matters, a body(70) embedding plural parts and connecting to the suction nozzle, a dust collecting unit(90) detachably mounted in the body to filtrate foreign matters from air, a power cord for guiding power to the body, and a cord reel apparatus(100) for winding and storing the power cord. The cord reel apparatus is installed at a side of the body, and composed of a cord reel frame(110) formed in the body, a cord reel cover(120) combined with the cord reel frame to form the exterior and a reel member turned and installed between the cord reel frame and the cord reel cover to wind the power cord.
