PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a user from repeatedly registering image data having the same keyword with image data which is already registered as a file when registering image data in an area allocated to a storage device. SOLUTION: An apparatus for image processing which has a hard disk drive 160 for storing image data is characterized in that a controller 110 extracts a keyword from image information read out of a document and image information stored on the hard disk drive 160, decides the degree of matching of the extracted keyword, and controls replacing registration of the read image data for image data stored on the hard disk drive 160.
