PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve an axial retention-force of a linear one-way clutch for axially locking a shaft in one direction. SOLUTION: A plurality of ring segments 5 are provided on the outside perimeter of the shaft 4 inserted in the inside of an outer ring 1. An axially tilting tapered face 7 is formed on the outside perimeter of each ring-segment 5. Rollers 18 are each installed in a wedge-shaped space 13 between the tapered face 7 and a plane 12 formed on the inside perimeter of the outer ring 1. Each cage 14 for retaining the roller 18 is biassed by an elastic member 19 in the direction of making press-contact to the tapered face 7 and the plane 12. When the force in the direction for locking is applied on the shaft 4, the roller 18 is engaged with the tapered face 7 and the plane 12, and the ring segment 5 is brought to press-contact to the outside perimeter of the shaft 4. When the axial force is increased, a sliding is caused in the contact part of the shaft 4 and the ring segment 5, and an engagement face 21 of a ring groove 20 is engaged with the internal circumference of a large end face 8 of the ring segment 5 so that the axial retention-force to the shaft 4 is improved.
