The rear bumper is joined to the vehicle with a transversally positioned element (1) stretching across the full width of the vehicle. The element (1) has an L-shaped cross section and is attached to the vehicle with the shorter segment (2) and to the inner surface of the bumper with its longer segment (3). The longer segment (3) is designed as a grid (4) in order to be compressed in the case of an impact.
