A vacuum electron beam welding installation has lock chamber and a first loading device (18) which has at least two grippers which alternately transport a first blank into the lock chamber and remove finished workpieces from the lock chamber. At least one further second loading device (20) is provided which transports at least one additional second blank into the lock chamber when the latter is opened which is then welded with the first blank to the workpiece in the welding installation : Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a method for loading and unloading a vacuum lock chamber of a welding installation; and (2) implementation of a vacuum welding installation for manufacturing a turbine rotor.
