The insulating element consisting of an insulating sheet of mineral wool, split parallel to its primary surface, with both partial insulating sheets wound into a roll, can be handled in one piece in the unrolled state. The partial insulating sheets have an equal nominal thickness. The insulating element has a nominal thickness of 60 mm to 100 mm. The insulating element may have a nominal thickness of 80 mm and the partial insulating sheets may each have a nominal thickness of 40 mm. An independent claim is included for a use for the insulating element which is as insulating material for light partitioning walls and with insulating panels.
