PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrochemical display element using precipitation and dissolution of a metal film and having excellent display characteristics and energizing cycle characteristics. SOLUTION: The electrochemical display element 100 comprises a first transparent electrode 30, an electrolytic layer 20 capable of inducing a reaction of forming and erasing a metal mirror surface on the first transparent electrode 30 by electrochemical reduction/oxidation and by associating precipitation and dissolution, and a second electrode 10 disposed to interpose the electrolytic layer 20 with the first transparent electrode 30.
