PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image formation device improving the accuracy of detecting a color gap, by a simple composition or method. SOLUTION: The energy density of a light beam at a beam waist position forms a sharply-extending curve as shown in figure (a). On the contrary, the energy density of the light beam apart from the beam waist position forms a gently-extending curve as shown in figure (b). If an energy level with which a toner image is formed on a photo conductor is defined as E0, the width of a latent image of (a) is equal to A while the one of (b) being equal to B. Since the standing-up of the energy in the case of (a) is sharp, the edge section of the toner image is formed as a sharp edge. In the case of (b), the standing-up of the energy is gentle, so the toner is attached unevenly, then the edge section is faded. If the composition is such that a detection pattern is formed in the position in which the photo conductor surface gets nearly equal to the beam waist position of a main scanning direction and sub-scanning direction, the detections in both the main- and sub-scanning direction is performed in the same position, then the composition of the color-gap detecting means is made simple.
