PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surgical instrument, operated to test anastomosis located in an anastomosis region in the body of a patient. SOLUTION: This surgical instrument includes a handle 19 connected to a shaft 15 and a pair of expansible members 30, 32. The shaft includes a conduit for transmitting a pressurized medium to an expansible member and a ventilating pipe. The handle includes a port for transmitting the pressurized medium to the conduit and a port for transmitting the pressurized medium to the ventilating pipe. After the anastomosis ring 14 is disposed, the shaft is positioned in each lumen to which the expansible member is joined by anastomosis, and can be positioned so that the expansible member is disposed on each side of anastomosis. These expansible members can be expanded in each lumen to achieve sealing. With each lumen sealed with the expansible member, the anastomosis region can be ventilated through the ventilating pipe to test leakage of anastomosis and pressure. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
