[Also in Group XXXIV] A method of making a half-bearing bush by deforming material, e.g. a bimetal between a die and mandrel or between a pair of rollers is characterized in that the die or mandrel or one of the rollers is provided with resilient parts in the axial direction of the bearing bush. As shown in Fig. 1, a metal sheet 3 is bent between a mandrel 4 and a die 1 provided with cavities 6. The stroke of the mandrel is limited by means of discs 5. In a modification, Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown), the cavities are provided in a sleeve shrunk on to the mandrel, and the side edges of the bearing bush are tapered by providing the die with side feet. In another modification, the tapering of the side edges of the bearing bush is obtained by pressing a tool 16, Fig. 4, into a slot in the die so that during the pressing operation the upper part of the die moves from the position 17 into the dotted line position 18. In a further modification, Fig. 5, the pressing surface of the die extends upwardly beyond the medial plane of the workpiece 2. In another modification, Fig. 6, a workpiece 22 is deformed between a mandrel and a die having inserted therein an annular member 19 provided with a recess 21. In a further modification, Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown), the die has a transverse bore below the upper surface thereof. In another modification, Fig. 9 (not shown), a workpiece having a flange at each side is deformed by means of apparatus similar to that shown in Fig. 1. In a further modification, Fig. 10, a sheet 31 is bent between rollers 32, 33 of different diameter, the roller 33 being formed by means of a ring having cavities 35, 36 which is shrunk on to a journal 34.
