A socket 1 for attachment to the end of a wire rope 6, has a bore, part of which is conical, and part of which is provided with an internal sleeve 12 of resilient material, preferably rubber, which embraces the rope. Preferably, the diameter of the part of the bore containing the sleeve 12 is greater than the minimum diameter of the conical part, and one end 13 of the sleeve 12 is formed with a flange which is turned over to embrace the end 5 of the socket to protect the socket from contact with the rope and with external objects and also to prevent damage to the cable inside the socket by moisture. The sleeve 12 may be longitudinally split and sealed to the socket by a petroleum-rubber adhesive. |
