<p>A sewing machine has a horizontal working surface under a portal bearing the upright needle and engaging with the passing fabric. The fabric is guided and held down by a lever arm that lifts to release the work piece after completion of an operation. The lever-arm is detachable from an articulated lever arm. The lever arm has a two-part spring-operated articulated structure with outer and inner articulated frames. The articulated arm has a forward section (31a) in contact with the fabric and a rear section (31b) attached to the portal. On lifting, the articulated lever also retracts part way towards the portal column. The articulated linkage between the front and rear sections has a slotted guide (34).</p> |
