PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for rendering harmless a waste consisting of an article requiring electromagnetic wave absorption protection to which what is called carbon family elements (C, Si, Ge, Sn, Pb), which are electromagnetic wave absorbing elements in group XIV of the periodic table, are added. SOLUTION: The method comprises a step of preparing powdered glass containing what is called carbon family elements of germanium, tin and lead which are electromagnetic wave absorbing elements in group XIV of the periodic table and mixing the powdered glass with paint, cement, plaster, rubber and plastics, or a step of adding an alloy containing the carbon family elements to a metal article, or a step of mixing the carbon family elements in a ceramic article for shaping and firing, or a step of mixing compounds of electromagnetic wave reflective elements in group XII of the periodic table (Be, Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba, Ra) excluding radium in paint, cement, a plaster board, an earthen wall or the like.
