The ring rail (4) and the yarn guide support rod (8) are reciprocated during the bobbin build by lifter tapes (12, 14) as they wrap round winding drums (16, 17). At the end of the build the ring rail (4) is lowered to the spindle rail (1) and in that position a roller (20) on the winding drum (16) engages an arm (21). This operates a mechanism (22, 23, 25, 26) that rotates the yarn guide support rod (8) to lift the yarn guides (7).
