A non-copper plated welding wire having such characteristics as capability that the welding wire can be melted stably at a sliding contact point between a tip and the surface of the welding wire during welding, characteristics free from sudden solidification generated at the sliding contact point during continuous welding, and good workability with minimum spatter and fume is provided. In a non-copper plated welding wire enabling CO2 gas sealed arc welding under the conditions that an average electric current is 150 to 170 A, a tip has an electric current supply length of 2 to 4 mm, a distance between the tip and a base metal is 20 to 24 mm, and a free loop caused by wire coiling has a diameter of 700 to 800, the non-copper plated welding wire is characterized in that: a possibility of voltage drop exceeding 0.41 V between the welding wire and the tip is 70% or higher under the condition that an electric current is 140 to 180 A; 0.25 to 1.5 g of an oil per 10 kg of the welding wire is retained on the surface of the welding wire; and the oil is at least one oil selected from a vegetable oil, an animal oil, a mineral oil, and a synthetic oil.
