A device and a method for a digital picture frame service using a screen saver function are provided to automatically display and/or output multimedia data uploaded to a digital picture frame server for an idle state of a PC or a notebook computer by downloading the multimedia data from the digital picture frame server through the wired/wireless packet network. A user interface processor(501) provides a screen for uploading multimedia contents through the wired/wireless packet network. An upload user authenticator(503) verifies a right of the user to upload the multimedia contents. An upload processor(505) uploads the multimedia contents from the authenticated user. A content storing/managing part(506) stores and manages the uploaded multimedia contents by mapping to each user account. A PC client authenticator(504) authenticates a PC client to download the multimedia contents. A PC client communicator(502) downloads the multimedia content to the authenticated PC client.
