PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a display device which can form in a simple method an organic EL layer having a comparatively uniform thickness in a pixel forming area of a display pixel. SOLUTION: Only on a liquid repellent molecular layer 31 formed on the organic EL element formation area Ae1 (on a pixel electrode 12) of an insulating substrate 11, a direct spot irradiation of a laser beam of a short wavelength (380 nm or less) is applied and only the above area is made lyophilic, and a lyophilic/lyophobic pattern (a pattern of different wettabilities) is formed on the insulating substrate 11, and a coating liquid (an organic compound containing liquid) of an organic material (a hole transport material and an electron transport luminescent material) is made to spread over uniformly with ease only in the organic EL element formation area Ae1, and an organic EL layer 13 (a hole transport layer 13a and an electron transport luminescent layer 13b) having a uniform thickness is formed.
