PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a document management system capable of efficiently storing a document, reducing memory capacity and shortening a processing time. SOLUTION: A file analyzing part 1103 of a server analyzes a received document, and when the received document is a code document, extracts index data for document retrieval from the code document by a code document processing part 1104, and when the received document is an image document, executes image document processing by an image document processing part 1105 to extract the index data for document retrieval. A database control part 1108 stores the received document data in a volume database 1109, and registers the extracted index data for document retrieval in a database 1111 for full sentence retrieval, and registers the attribute information of the document in an attribute database 1110.
