A display panel 1 and a frame 2 , provided on the periphery of the display panel, are included. The frame 2 includes a supporting portion 2 for supporting the display panel 1 on the periphery thereof (i.e., on the principal surface of the substrate of the display panel 1 ). The supporting portion 2 includes a flat portion 2 a and a first curved portion 2 b, which are provided so as to face the principal surface of the substrate 1 . The first curved portion 2 b is continuous with the flat portion 2 a. The principal surface of the substrate 1 is fixed onto the flat portion 2 a either directly or indirectly. While no external force is being applied to the display panel 1 , a gap is left between the principal surface of the substrate 1 and the curved portion 2 b.
