Disclosed is a vibration damper (10) which is suitable particularly for mounting on a gearshift lever (12) of a motor vehicle. Said vibration damper (10) comprises a support sleeve (14) which is to be placed upon a shaft part and is provided with a sleeve axis (22). The support sleeve encompasses a clamping zone in which the same is embodied in a radially constrictable manner so as to clamp the shaft part. An oscillating weight (18) is suspended on the support sleeve so as to be able to oscillate. A clamping element (16) which surrounds the support sleeve in the clamping zone thereof in the assembled state is used for radially constricting the clamping zone. According to one aspect of the invention, the support sleeve is provided with at least one positioning formation (30) in the clamping zone thereof. Said positioning formation (30) protrudes radially inward and is used and configured for a positioning engagement into an opposite positioning formation (32) of the shaft part. In a preferred embodiment, several circumferentially extending, radially rising clamping ramps which can be made to wedgingly engage with each other by relatively rotating the support sleeve and the clamping element are provided on the outer circumferential surface of the support sleeve and the inner circumferential surface of the clamping element. The surfaces of the clamping ramps can be embodied in a wavy fashion.
