An air-gap insulated motor vehicle exhaust duct has an outer pipe (3) and an inner pipe (5), between which is formed an air gap (8). One of the two pipes (3) is fitted with a flange (11), and between the flange (11) and the other pipe (5) is a seal (17) which to a large extent seals the air gap (8) against the surroundings and also allows relative axial and radial movement between the flange (11) and the other pipe (5) when thermal expansion occurs while the vehicle is driving.
