METHOD OF STORING HYDROGEN

A method of hydrogen storage which enables hydrogen to be easily stored and the hydrogen to be easily released. It comprises cooling a liquid mixture comprising a carbon compound having the ability to form a molecular compound and a protonic polar solvent while contacting the mixture with hydrogen to thereby form a solid substance containing hydrogen incorporated therein. Thus, a clathrate which is less apt to include hydrogen therein unless the atmosphere has an ultrahigh pressure confines therein the carbon compound having the ability to form a molecular compound and this carbon compound forms a molecular compound with hydrogen, while a clathrate capable of including hydrogen therein under high-pressure conditions also forms a hydrogen clathrate. Consequently, the density of hydrogen stored can be heightened. The hydrogen can be stored by maintaining the state of the solid substance, and can be easily taken out by merely dissolving this solid substance in water.
