A diode (3) emits a laser beam (6) in the 1.8 to 2.1 micrometer range to a fiber optic cable (4). A generator (2) produces current having an adjustable repetition frequency. A supply unit (10) supplies the current to the diode. A frequency changer (5) varies the frequency to reduce the emitted laser beam.
