Use of a cationic polymer (A) with an organic quaternary ammonium salt as a biocidal active agent, is obtained by the radical polymerization of an ethylenic unsaturated polymerizable compound (monomer), where the monomer contains a primary, secondary, tertiary or quaternary amino group (polyvinylamine). An independent claim is included for a biocidal substrate coated with the polyvinylamine, is obtained by impregnating or treating the substrates with the solution and/or dispersion of polyvinylamine and ammonium salt.
