PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new cyclopentene derivative useful as an intermediate for iridoids, to provide a method for producing the same and a method for producing dihydronepetalactone and matatabilactone by using the cyclopentene derivative. SOLUTION: The cyclopentene derivative has a structure represented by general formula (1) (R<SP>1</SP>is a methyl group, an ethyl group or a trichloroethyl group). The method for producing the cyclopentene derivative comprises condensing tert-butyl acetoacetate with a halogenoacetoacetic acid alkyl ester in the presence of a solvent. The method for producing dihydronepetalactone and matatabilactone comprises using the cyclopentane derivative and carrying out a specific treatment process. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
