<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a highly functional material having photoirradiation efficiency and photolysis efficiency both drastically enhanced by raising the efficiency of a titanium dioxide catalyst and utilizing an adsorbent having light transmission performance. <P>SOLUTION: A highly functional porous glass material 20 comprises a metal-carrying photocatalyst consisting of titanium dioxide particles of the anatase type, or particularly, rutile type and ultrafine particles of a noble metal having a mean particle size of not larger than 2 nm and carried on the titanium dioxide particles, and a large number of the metal-carrying photocatalysts 2 are immobilized on the surface of a porous glass adsorbent material to adsorb and decompose an object substance to be decomposed. The highly functional porous glass material 20 is formed on the outer surface of a sealed tube such as a fluorescent tube and a discharge tube, and decomposes the object substance 22 adsorbed on the surface of the porous glass efficiently with light radiated outward. An environment cleaning method and an environment cleaning apparatus such as an air cleaner 24 using the highly functional porous glass material 20 are disclosed. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
