PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for cleaning an apparatus for producing a polybutylene terephthalate by which an attached material remaining in the apparatus for producing the polybutylene terephthalate can be removed easily, and the quality of a polymer by the reaction at the following batch is not deteriorated. SOLUTION: The method for cleaning the apparatus for producing the polybutylene terephthalate comprises charging a flake-shaped polyester composed of terephthalic acid as the main dicarboxylic acid, and 1,4-butanediol as the main glycol component, and having≥0.4 intrinsic viscosity, and the 1,4-butanediol in a proportion of≥5 wt.% based on the polyester to the apparatus, stirring the charged material in the unmelted state of the polyester, and heating and melting the polyester when cleaning the apparatus for producing the polybutylene terephthalate.
