<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which fully exerts a function enhancement by a function expansion board. <P>SOLUTION: An expansion board control device 12 in a main board 1 of a main body accesses an ID register 23a of a main board I/F device 21 in an connected expansion board 2, and reads its content (a register value) when the apparatus main body is booted.
