<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and a method for content distribution, a control device and a control method, a playback device and a playback method, and a program, for improving operability of the control device. <P>SOLUTION: A renderer 4 identifies the category of a content to be a playback object, and transmits the category identification result to a controller 2. Then, in the controller 2, a receiver section 21 receives the identification result transmitted from the renderer 4. Based on the identification result, a display 27 performs processing for making a user recognize a command for instructing to handle, which is executable upon the content of the playback object, among the commands for instructing to handle the content in the renderer 4.
