<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To drive an electric motor even if a voltage of an accumulator battery is zero at the start of an engine, to reduce the sized of a drive circuit of the electric motor, and to reduce a traveling vehicle itself in size. <P>SOLUTION: A drive shaft of the engine 1 and a drive shaft of the SR motor 2 are connected with each other. The SR motor 2 is connected to a large-capacity capacitor 4 that is the accumulator battery via an SRM driver 3. A driver capacitor 5 is connected to the large-capacity capacitor 4 in parallel therewith. A contactor 6 is connected between the large-capacity capacitor 4 and the driver capacitor 5 and between the large-capacity capacitor 4 and the SRM driver 3 in series. An excitation power supply 17 is connected to the SR motor 2 via the SRM driver 3. The SR motor 2 operates as a generator when the SR motor 2 is excited at the excitation power supply 17. A generation voltage of the SR motor 2 is adjusted by the SRM driver 3. Accordingly, the driver capacitor 5 and the large-capacity capacitor 4 are charged by the generation voltage of the SR motor 2.
