PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a glass substrate for a flat panel display, which, even when dividing and cutting a large-sized plate glass, causes little deformation after the dividing and cutting and generates no displaying failure of the display due to deviation of its pattern from a prescribed design, and to provide a method for manufacturing the glass substrate. SOLUTION: In a cooling process after the formation of the plate glass, such temperature control that the range of the temperature distribution generated in the plane surface direction of the plate glass is reduced is conducted. Thereby, a glass substrate for a flat panel display, whose residual stress in the plane surface is≤5 kg/cm<SP>2</SP>, is manufactured. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
