The fuel metering system for an internal combustion engine (12) comprises a first module which determines a corrected injected fuel mass on the basis of an engine temperature and a measured combusted fuel mass, a second module which determines a rough injected fuel mass on the basis of the corrected injected fuel mass and engine temperature, and a third module which controls a fuel supply to a cylinder (14) of the engine on the basis of the rough injected fuel mass. An independent claim is included for a method for controlling of fuel metering to an internal combustion engine by application of the aforesaid system.
