PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus which can measure a longitudinal axis relaxation time of nuclear magnetic resonance of blood more exactly, by minimizing an influence of the amount of the blood. SOLUTION: A first magnetic field (M<SB>o</SB>) is applied to a living body section in which the blood flows, in order to magnetize the blood in a first direction, and then a second magnetic field (M<SB>z</SB>) is applied to at least a portion of the living body section to which the first magnetic field (M<SB>o</SB>) is applied, in order to magnetize a portion of the blood being magnetized in the first direction, in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction, wherein the start and stop of applying the second magnetic field (M<SB>z</SB>) are controlled. When controlling so as to stop applying the second magnetic field (M<SB>z</SB>), an induction signal induced by magnetization which returns in the first direction from the second direction, is detected, and the amount of the blood flowing in the living body section, to which the second magnetic field (M<SB>z</SB>) is applied, is detected, and then the longitudinal axis relaxation time (T<SB>1</SB>) of the blood is computed from the induction signal and the amount of the blood, so as to reduce the influence of the amount of the blood on the longitudinal axis relaxation time of the blood.
