A sheet or foil of polymethylene terephthalate is coated with a layer comprising a polyacrylic resin which acts as an " anchoring " layer for subsequently applied coatings of film-forming substances such as of cellulose esters or ethers, or for a paper web. The anchoring layer may contain substances to improve adhesion, such as plasticizers or cellulose esters or ethers. In examples: (1) a stretched and dimensionally stabilized foil is coated with an acetone solution of a polyacrylic resin which, after evaporation of solvent, is hardened by heating from 90 ‹ to 160‹ C. and is coated with a solution of ethyl cellulose containing a phthalic acid ester and light sensitized by 4-diazo-diethylaniline-zinc chloride, resorcinol, boric and citric acids; (2) as in (1) using a different polyacrylic resin; (3) a stabilized foil is coated with a solution of 10 parts of a polyacrylic resin and 1 part of collodion in diethyl ketone and, after drying, coated with a solution of an alcohol-soluble nitrocellulose. A layer of a gelatine solution containing acetic acid may be applied and further coated with silver bromide gelation; (4) a stabilized foil is coated with an acetone solution of a polyacrylic resin containing dibutyl phthalate which is dried and coated with a methyl acetate/methanol solution of acetyl cellulose plasticized with dibutyl phthalate which, after drying, is light-sensitized by coating with an aqueous solution containing organic solvent of a diazo compound; (5) as in (2) using a mixed polyacrylic resin containing dibutyl phthalate and coated with nitro-, acetyl- or ethyl-cellulose; (b) a foil as in (2) is coated with polyacrylic acid ethyl ester, superficially dried and, on a hot-calender, a paper web is caused to adhere thereto. |
