A driving device and method of a liquid crystal display are provided to naturally display an image on an RGBW(Red,Green,Blue,White) display device by making the luminance amplification degrees of source data of three colors same by using a gain value. A driving device of a liquid crystal display includes a liquid crystal panel(102) including sub pixels of four colors; a data driver(104) supplying a video data signal to each sub pixel; a gate driver(106) supplying scan pulse to the sub pixels; a data conversion unit(110) generating a gain value by analyzing the ratio of an achromatic signal and a chromatic signal in source data of three colors(RGB) input from the outside and converting the three color source data into four color(RGBW) data by using the generated gain value; and a timing controller(108) supplying the four color data output from the data conversion unit, to the data driver and controlling the gate driver and the data driver.
