RANGING SYSTEM AND METHOD THEREOF

A ranging system and a method thereof are provided to enable a distance calculator to calculate a distance between a transmission device and a reception device using the transmission time and transmission rate of a transmission signal, thereby accurately measuring the distance between the devices and reducing power consumption and channel occupancy when transmitting a transmission pulse. A ranging system comprises the followings: a transmission signal generator(111) generating a signal which is transmitted from a transmission device(110) to a reception device(130) to grasp a location between plural devices and is made of chaotic signals; a correction signal generator(122) which convert the transmission signal, which is processed in the reception device(130) and is re-inputted to the transmission device(110), into a correction signal, made of standardized waves; a reference signal generator(115) which generates a reference signal having a certain frequency difference from the transmission signal to be compared with the correction signal by being simultaneously generated together with the transmission signal; an overlap detector(119) which detects a pulse region where the correction signal and the reference signal overlap with each other; a time calculator(117) which calculates a transmission time of the transmission signal between the transmission device(110) and the reception device(130); and a distance calculator(121) which calculates a distance between the transmission device(110) and the reception device(130) by using the transmission time and transmission rate of the transmission signal.
