A method for determining a lens central position and an image pickup device performing the method are provided to maximize the process efficiency of the image pickup device by performing an operation process for only a partial region of image data generated by an image sensor and storing an operation value for only the partial region of the image data. An image sensor(160) detects object information inputted through a lens(155), converts the detected object information into image data of an electric signal type, and successively outputs pixel values corresponding to respective pixels. An image processing unit(165) selects a pixel having predetermined threshold change among pixel values of horizontal and vertical relation with a certain reference pixel, and determines a distance with the reference pixel as an X-axis offset value and a Y-axis offset value. The image processing unit sets a lens central coordinate by using coordinate values of two pixels having the maximum operation value among pixels which exist in two boundary straight lines of a quadrangle formed by boundary straight lines separated by the X-axis offset value and the Y-axis offset value on the basis of a coordinate of the reference pixel.
