In the present invention, there is disclosed a treatment process of cellulose and/or lignin and cellulose-containing materials wherein cellulose is treated with potassium fluoride peroxohydrate of the general formula KF . nHi2Oi2, in which n is 1, 2 or 3, in an amount of 0.1 to 2 percent by weight based on the dry cellulose total weight, with hydrogen peroxide in an amount of 1 to 3.5 percent by weight based on the dry cellulose total weight, and in basic environment with pH value ranging from 9 to 10.9 at a temperature ranging from 70 to 90 degC for a period of 1 to 5 hours. Subsequently the cellulose is then bleached, increasing thus its mechanical strength and hydrophobic properties and at the same time, residual lignin is removed therefrom. The potassium fluoride peroxohydrate of the general formula KF . nHi2Oi2 can be used in an amount of 0.5 to 1.5 percent by weight based on the dry cellulose total weight. The cellulose is further subjected to washing and drying. Alternatively the cellulose is washed and further treated with chlorine dioxide ClOi2 in an amount of 1 to 1.5 percent by weight based on the dry cellulose total weight for a period of 90 to 120 minutes at a temperature ranging from 65 to 75 degC, whereupon the cellulose is treated again with hydrogen peroxide, stabilized potassium fluoride peroxohydrate of the general formula KF . nHi2Oi2, in which n is 1, 2 or 3, and washed again. |
