A method and an apparatus for controlling a BLDC motor having a gear box are provided to accurately adjust a rotation angle of the BLDC motor by using the gear box. An apparatus for controlling a BLDC(Brushless DC) motor having a gear box includes a rotation detector(450), a required rotation amount input portion(430), a comparator(440), and a current controller(420). The rotation detector counts the number of rotation pulses according to rotation of a rotor from the BLDC motor. The required rotation amount input portion receives an output rotation number and converts the received result to a required rotation amount. The comparator compares the rotation pulse number with the required rotation amount. The current controller controls the current, which is applied on the BLDC motor, based on a compared result from the comparator.
