An apparatus and a method for inputting Korean characters using direction keys are provided to automatically generate Korean character consonants and vowels of a shape corresponding to a key input value and order by detecting and checking up, down, left, right, OK key input values and the key input order, thereby enabling a user to more easily input the Korean character text. A method for inputting Korean characters using direction keys comprises the following steps of: executing a Korean character conversion program pre-stored within a device if a Korean character input mode is set up(S10,S11); generating the Korean character of a shape corresponding to an inputted value and order by detecting and checking a key input value and an input order which a user selectively inputs in a state that the Korean character conversion program is executed(S13,S14); and displaying the generated Korean character text and storing it as text data(S15).
