Process for manufacturing polymer particles by spray polymerization

Producing polymer particles by spray polymerization of a monomer solution comprises producing deliberate concentration differences in the liquid and/or gas phase by injecting various liquid and/or gas streams. Independent claims are also included for: (1) producing hygiene articles using water-absorbing polymer particles produced as above; (2) spray nozzle comprising a central feed with an inside diameter d 1, a surrounding feed with an inside diameter d 2 and a connection between the two feeds and the mouth of the nozzle, where d 1/d 2 is at least 0.8 and the angle of the connection between the surrounding feed and the connection is less than 45[deg]; (3) spray polymerization reactor comprising a device for dripping or spraying a monomer solution, a device for supplying a gas stream and a device for spraying another liquid and/or a device supplying another gas stream, the devices being spatially separated from one another.
