The process for correcting the hepatic failure comprises the detection of intoxication in the samples of the blood taken from the system of inferior vena cava and the portal vein, the assessment of the systemic inflammatory response in the portal and systemic circulation. Then plasmapheresis is performed. The removed plasma is replenished by the colloid solutions. The pressure in the portal system is measured. The ratio between the parameters characterizing the systemic inflammatory response in the portal and systemic circulation equal to or exceeding one is indicative of the portal toxemia. In such a case, the blood for the plasmapheresis is taken from the system of the portal vein. The ratio less than unity is a diagnostic feature of the systemic toxemia. In such a case, the blood for the plasmapheresis is taken from the system of inferior vena cava. When the blood pressure in the portal system is normal, the volume of the removed plasma is replenished by colloid and crystalloid solutions, when the pressure is elevated, only crystalloid solutions are used. In the case of the portal toxemia, Thotriasolin is administered into the portal system. In the case of the systemic toxemia, Thotriasolin is administered into the system of inferior vena cava.
