The proposed method for estimating the maturity of the fetus or newborn from a woman with insulin-dependent diabetes consists in determining the relative volume of the lymphoid component of the thymus, determining the number of the cells that release the surface receptors of mature thymocytes (CD3), determining the number of the cells that release the surface receptors of immature thymocytes (THY1), and calculating the thymus maturity indicator. The immaturity of the thymus is diagnosed if the said indicator exceeds the indicator for an average-weight fetus.
